OrthodonticsOrthodontic problems, such as crooked and twisted teeth, gaps between the teeth, poor alignment and crowding, are common. These dental irregularities can affect the function of the mouth and the appearance of the smile, which may have implications for people’s self-esteem and confidence. Orthodontic treatment aims to straighten teeth, improving smile aesthetics and helps boost self-confidence. At Temple Square Dental we are delighted to offer clients a comprehensive range of teeth straightening treatments, from removable appliances to invisible braces. Thanks to modern technology we can create beautiful straight smiles to help you look and feel your best.

Our Orthodontics Team

David McAleavey has been providing orthodontic care in Aylesbury for over 30 years and Nicky Worthington, specialist orthodontist, joined the practice in 2016. David and Nicky are assisted by two excellent orthodontic nurses, Jade and Jodie. They are both friendly, caring and very experienced.

NHS orthodontics

At Temple Square Dental we offer a free, NHS-funded initial consultation to all patients aged under 18. This enables us to establish whether your child needs orthodontic work, and whether they meet the necessary criteria for NHS treatment.

Private orthodontics

This is the perfect solution for the increasing number of adults who want to enhance their smile. It is also ideal for children who do not qualify for NHS treatment, but who would still like to have beautifully straight teeth. Ceramic, tooth coloured brackets can be fitted to the top teeth. Our clear aligners are virtually invisible, see-through braces which are removed for eating and for cleaning your teeth. They are ideal for adults with slightly crooked teeth.

Lingual Orthodontics

Sometimes it is possible to place braces on the inside of your teeth – called lingual orthodontics.

We will of course discuss all the choices available to you or your child when you visit! At your first appointment, we will examine your teeth and mouth to assess what treatment will be most suited to you and, for children, whether they are eligible for NHS funded orthodontics. We will let you know exactly what treatments are available to you, and what the cost implications are, so you can make an informed decision.

Do I have to have metal brackets?

No- tooth coloured ceramic brackets can be placed on your teeth.

Will I need extraction of some teeth?

We will ask your regular dentist to remove teeth if necessary to relieve crowding. If you do not have your own dentist then this can be arranged for you with us too.

Can appointments be made outside school hours?

Yes, we will do our best to minimize disruption to school work, but sometimes for long appointments these may need to be scheduled for a morning.

Case Studies

How will my teeth stay straight?

We will provide you with a removable plastic retainer to wear at nights or a wire retainer bonded to the inside of your teeth, or both. This retention phase is a very important part of all orthodontic treatment in order to obtain long lasting results with straightened teeth.

In some situations it may be possible to correct small discrepancies in maligned teeth without the need for orthodontics, in this case the result is quicker and may just involve smile design with composites or porcelain veneers.

Please discuss the most appropriate options with your dentist.
